Richard Jones, Head Gardener
Born in 1976, Richard is married with 2 young children. He has worked in Horticulture since leaving school after A levels and attaining Level 3 City & Guilds in horticulture with hard and soft landscape options.
Richard ran his own grounds contracting business for 5 years, attaining a silver award in the young businessman category in ‘1999 Business Excellence’ awards, and a gold award for service to others in ‘2000 Thames Valley Enterprise Awards’.
Before moving to Hartwell as Head Gardener in 2008, Richard spent 6 years working for the Waddesdon Estate in the Rothschilds’ private gardens. His focus in the gardens at Hartwell is to maintain and restore as much of the surviving 18th century parkland and features as possible, allowing for the change in purpose of the house, and is also committed to providing as much fresh produce for the restaurant as he can from Hartwell’s own vegetable gardens and orchard.
Richard’s hobbies include tinkering with old cars and machinery, and caravanning with Bucks Centre Caravan Club.
